Fox Sports Networks without Cable

Let's say you have a website which is devoted solely to cord cutting.  With the proliferation of online stream services currently available, you’d think that the person with said website would know the details of those services such as the various packages, channels included in each package, etc. Nope.  Not if we’re talking about Cord Cutters News where mistakes, errors and false statements are par for the course.  Let’s take a look.

A post from 3/16/2017 titled “How to Watch Fox Sports Networks Without Cable TV” offers a quick guide to watching Fox Sports Networks without cable TV.  It then goes on to mention Sling TV, PlayStation Vue and DIRECTV NOW.  The problem is that there are two major errors when it comes to the pricing required to receive Fox Sports Regional Networks (FSNs) via these streaming services.  To see the original post & how it should be corrected, please scroll all the way to the bottom of this post.

For PlayStation Vue it says “Starting at just $30 a month (in some markets $40) you will get your regional Fox Sports Network and a ton of other channels.  This is false.  The $29.99/month package (or $39.99 in markets which include local networks), known as the Access Slim plan, does not include any FSNs.  To receive those, you need to subscribe to the Core Slim package (or higher) which starts at $34.99/month (or $44.99 in markets which include local networks).  So the cost cited is off by $5 which isn’t a huge deal, but it’s still wrong.

See the examples of channel lineups from Detroit (no locals) and Miami (locals) below as proof. Notice that on the Access Slim pictures, the Fox Sports logos are grayed out indicating they are not included in the plan.  Or confirm for yourself here -> PlayStation Vue Channel Lineup

DIRECTV NOW’s cited cost, on the other hand, is off by 3x that amount! The post states The newest option is DIRECTV NOW, which starts at $35 a month, and you get your local sports network and a ton of other networks such as FS1 and ESPN.  Again, this is false.  The $35/month plan, named Live a Little, does not include any FSNs.  You need to purchase the Just Right plan (or higher) in order to receive your local FSN and that plan costs $50/month, not $35.  So, again, Cord Cutters News is wrong when it comes to even the most basic of details.  Now, it should be noted that someone who signed up for DIRECTV NOW on or before January 10th, 2017, could have the GO BIG plan for the intro rate of $35/month and be receiving his/her local FSNs.  However, that offer expired over two months ago so the possibility of this post (2+ months after the fact) applying to someone in that situation is nil.
